On Saturday Derby Greenpeace supporters held a protest at a local Shell petrol station as part of a national protest that included 73 Shell petrol stations across the country. The protests are in support of the Arctic 30; two journalists and 28 Greenpeace activists being held in St Petersburg, charged with piracy and hooliganism. Today (30th November 2011) saw the largest strike of public sector workers since 1979. In Derby there was probably close to a thousand marching from the Silk Mill to the Market Square with hundreds of thousands of workers doing the same all over the country.
